JO is ok (sometimes very good), but a lot of the time they have over hyped jokes ("Holy shit!") and fillers + they tell you how to think/feel about issues (as opposed to pointing out flaws in ideological adversaries - which ofc they also do). Plus their target audience is somebody that's in their late teens/early twenties and knows very little about politics and that's super obvious. I agree politically with Bill Maher on just about every issue, but I think his show is low brow, polarizing trash.

I think this whole "Trump ran for President in 2016 because Obama embarrassed him in 2011" is a bit absurd. This idea came from Omarosa in the Frontline documentary on the 2016 Presidential campaign. But what people seem to forget is that Trump was running for President for 2012 during this 2011 Correspondence Dinner. And he dropped out of the race.
That he was planning revenge for 5 years is absurd since what would he have done if Romney had won in 2012 (he almost did). No, I think he ran in 2016 because it would have been great publicity for him to launch a news network, Trump TV. It would have been something like Breitbart like but for TV. I don't think he expected to win.

The first serious question is essentially, 'Does trump have a sense of humour?' And Seth cites two examples of trump _saying funny things_ during a debate and a prayer breakfast. This misses the larger points. One, that both those comments, despite the humour on their face, were made seriously. trump has a proven record as a man (I use the word man advisedly) who holds petty grudges for decades, so when he says he should have won an Emmy, any laughs he gets for saying that are purely unintentional.
Seth's Correspondents' Dinner routine is a case in point. The camera cuts to trump on a number of occasions in that evening, and he doesn't so much as crack a smile.
And to be very honest with you, I could cite a litany of reasons why I literally hate trump, but if I had to distill it down to one, it's that I can't like anyone who is incapable of laughter.
I wrote this comment before finding out they were running a clip of the 2011 dinner, so I'm kind of glad in a way, because you don't have to go far to see it. As soon as he announced in June 2015 that he was running, I thought "Correspondents' Dinner".
